What concerns can we help you with?

People access the service for a variety of reasons relating to life and academic studies. This might include feelings of stress and anxiety; bereavement; depression and other mental health and general wellbeing issues.

We support students who have a mental health diagnosis. If you need it, we can help with DSA applications and liaise with academic departments to make any reasonable adjustments that are necessary for you to achieve success in your studies.

There's no 'right' or 'wrong' reason to access the Health and Wellbeing Service. And if we can’t help, we'll always try to point you in the right direction.

Information for Parents

The transition to university can be difficult.

We understand that when your son or daughter leaves home for University, you are entrusting them to our care. We'll always take this very seriously, although it's important you recognise that we are legally bound to treat our students as adults.

Where a student accesses any of the services within the Student Wellbeing, Learning and Welfare Support Service, we'll ask them to complete a confidentiality form which includes the option of who we may contact.

Worried about a friend

If you have concerns about the wellbeing of a friend, please encourage them to make an appointment with us or to seek medical help. You're welcome to attend with them if they would like you to.

Please note that in some cases we may be limited as to the action we can take without an individual’s express consent. However, we would still encourage you to report any concerns that you may have, regardless of whether the individual is aware: we may still be able to support them and you.

Any information disclosed will be handled sensitively and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
