"The university is not only a place of academic studying but also a great environment to connect with new people around the world."

Tran Thi Minh Tam, MEd Early Childhood Studies

"The University of Hull has many excellent lecturers in my area of research, which was one of the many reasons I decided to pursue a PhD here. The University has allowed me to develop my teaching skills but also learn more modern study and teaching methods that I can use in the future."

Huan Hoang-Cong, PhD Finance

"I have been particularly impressed by how Business School courses include specialist modules which are designed to equip students for their future careers. The School also organises events that give students the opportunity to meet and hear from representatives from leading companies in the area. These aspects of my course give me confidence that I am gaining the necessary experience to reach my ambition in the future."

"Inspiring children is my passion in life, and I chose this course to gain a deeper understanding and knowledge of the early years setting.

"Apart from studying at university, I spend most of my time doing social activities and connecting with people who have the same ambition of educating young children, like me. I believe that those experiences will be the foundations of job opportunities in my future career.

"Being a health mentor volunteer for Hull Children’s University is one of the most remarkable experiences I have had so far since I came to Hull. I have had the opportunity to travel around the UK with pupils from many primary schools around Hull. By communicating with them, I have been able to understand more about children in the UK and practise the academic knowledge I am learning at university.

"The University is not only a place of academic studying but also a great environment to connect with new people around the world. Recently, I have made some good friends who come from different countries including Libya, Thailand and Egypt. We shared our own stories, traditional food and many things in life. Hull is a lovely place to live, with beautiful nature and helpful people."

"The University of Hull has many excellent lecturers in my area of research, which was one of the many reasons I decided to pursue a PhD in Finance here. The lecturers are extremely supportive and help me develop my research skills. Being at the University has allowed me to develop my teaching skills but also learn more modern study and teaching methods that I can use in the future. I believe this will help improve my abilities and my future career prospects.

"Besides studying, I take part in activities organised by the Students’ Union. The organised activities are great for socialising, as I have had the opportunity to make new friends from all over the world!

"The living cost in Hull is lower than most other university cities. There is plenty of accommodation for students and they are located conveniently near the university. This makes it easy to go to the university as it is in walking distance. Shops selling everyday items are within walking distance from the University and accommodation as well; this is convenient for students.

"After my studies, I plan to collaborate with the University in terms of training and research. There will be collaborative programmes in Economics from the University of Danang and the University of Hull.

"My greatest moments from my time at Hull are:

  1. The new Brynmor Jones Library – excellent for student resources.
  2. Global coffee at St John’s Church.
  3. Pearson Park – a great place to relax."

"I always felt I knew the UK from many English lessons when I was in Vietnam, and I wished I would be here someday. I also had friends and family who had come here and told me what a great experience it was, broadening your knowledge not only academically but also culturally. However, the most important reason I wanted to study Finance here is that England has long been one of the financial centres of the world.

"When I applied for a Master’s course, I had looked at five possible options in the UK, but the one that attracted my attention was the University of Hull. Its Business School has a great reputation, ranks highly in The Guardian’s league table and is well-known for attracting a lot of international students. I was also fortunate enough to achieve a scholarship through the university’s International Office which covered my tuition fees, making my experience of studying abroad much more manageable.

"The Business School and the University as a whole are really friendly environments where everyone is happy to help you. The academics always have their office doors open, meaning you can access advice and academic support at any time.

"The University of Hull also provides students with a range of excellent facilities and services such as spacious and comfortable lecture theatres; many computer rooms; a fantastic library with a wealth of reference material; and a dedicated Graduate School. Especially useful to me was the Business School’s Bloomberg Room, which offers unlimited access to economic data from all over the world.

"I have been particularly impressed by how Business School courses include specialist modules which are designed to equip students for their future careers. The module options are much more varied than they are in my home country, making it possible to gain a good overview of your subject area.

"The School also organises events that give students the opportunity to meet and hear from representatives from leading companies in the area. These aspects of my course give me confidence that I am gaining the necessary experience to reach my ambition in the future.

"When I applied to University as an international student, I was a bit concerned as to how things would be here, so I went to speak to the International Office when I arrived. The advice and support I received from them was so valuable and really helped me to integrate into the UK environment. The Students’ Union is another great source of support, run by students for students. It offers many volunteering opportunities and organises trips and events that help you build your soft skills, make new friends and improve your experience at the university.

"Living in Hull is really interesting. Everyone is friendly and the cost of living here is 30-40% cheaper than other cities in the UK, especially London. There are also several types of accommodation available, so you can choose the one that suits you best. The structure of my course also allows me to manage my time effectively, meaning I can fit in a part-time job and socialising with friends in the many cafes, shops and restaurants the city has to offer alongside my studies."
