Accessing the internet from Student Accommodation

All University-owned halls of residence and student houses are
fitted with a high-speed, wired internet connection known as
ResNet. It will take a few minutes for you to configure your
machine to connect to the ResNet network.
To connect your computer to the internet connection, you should
follow the setup instructions provided in your housing pack.
A copy of these
instructions can be downloaded from here (PDF).

IT Support
For most students, setting up internet access is a
straightforward process and we hope that this page should answer
any questions that you may have.
If you need help, please visit the IT Service Desk on
the ground floor of Applied Science with your laptop.

replacement, you can purchase one from the Library Reception, or
any shop selling IT Hardware.
- You must be running a fully licensed version of Windows XP,
Vista, 7, Mac OSX 10.4 or later. If your operating system is
not licensed, you will be unable to connect to the internet and the
Service Desk will not be able to assist you.
- Make sure that you are fully up to date with Apple or
Windows Updates:
- If you are running Windows XP, visit
windowsupdate.microsoft.com

socket and then registered using the Games Console Registration
Page.

- You will need your campus user ID and password before you
proceed.
- If you do not have your user ID or password, please visit
the Library Reception Desk, or IT Service Desk in Applied Science

Troubleshooting connection problems
- If you are not redirected to the setup page or receive a “URL
Blocked” message, check your proxy settings:
- Internet Explorer: click Tools, Internet Options and select the
Connections tab. Press the LAN Settings button and ensure that
“Automatically Detect Settings” is the only option that you have
selected. Close Internet Explorer and then retry.

button, select the Network tab, press the Settings button and
select “Auto-detect proxy settings for this network”. Click
OK.

enter your user ID, followed by @hull.ac.uk (eg. 303030@hull.ac.uk)
in the username box, enter your usual password into the password
box and leave the domain field blank.
- It can take several minutes for computers in student
