Athens

Access to a number of electronic resources is controlled by Athens, a national system which administers usernames and passwords for the academic community. A personal username and password - unique to each individual - can be used to access a wide range of resources from anywhere in the world subject to licence restrictions.

Obtaining an Athens password

All new students and staff automatically receive an Athens user id and password when registering with the University. This appears on the same printout as the campus id and password. The Athens user id can be identified as beginning with the letters hul

If you are on a University campus and have not been issued with an Athens username and password you can obtain one from the Computer centres at both the Hull and Scarborough campuses or the Brynmor Jones Library reception or enquiry desks.

If you are unable to come onto one of our campuses it is possible to request an Athens username via the Electronic Resources username and password request form.

Using your Athens password

It is important that you: 
1. Keep your Athens username and password strictly confidential; do not  disclose your Athens username and password to anyone.  
2. Abide by the terms and conditions for using Athens at http://www.eduserv.org.uk/about/termsofservice. The first time you use an Athens protected resource you will be required to click and "Accept" link.  
3. Accept the Eduserv Athens Privacy Policy at http://www.eduserv.org.uk/about/privacy

Please note in order to use our electronic resources you must also abide by the University's Acceptable use policies listed at  http://www2.hull.ac.uk/acs/help/about-us.aspx

Please be aware that many of our electronic resources have separate licences which govern their use.

In both cases you may need to wait up to two hours before your new password is activated.

Lost/forgotten your Athens password?

If you have lost or misplaced your Athens registration it is now possible to obtain a replacement password online.

Changing your Athens password

As with all Athens registrations your Athens username and password will be operative within two hours, at which time you may change your password.
