Knowledge Exchange

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

If your organisation has an innovative idea for a new or improved product or service but doesn't have the research expertise to take it from concept to reality, a Knowledge Transfer Partnership could be right for you.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) is a government funding programme which brings together go-ahead organisations like yours and our best academic staff through a recent graduate, employed by the University but working for you.  The KTP will transfer cutting-edge knowledge from the University into your organisation to make your concept a reality and leave you with an enhanced in-house research capability for your long-term benefit.  A KTP can run for anything from 12 months to 3 years depending on the nature of your knowledge-based challenge, and the package includes:

  • A recent graduate (the ‘KTP Associate’) working full-time on the project.
  • Half a day a week of intensive input from one or more of our best academics.
  • Budgets for travel, equipment and consumables to support the Associate’s work.
  • A training package and budget so your Associate keeps on developing.

KTPs have been a successful vehicle for innovation management for over 40 years, and typical outcomes attributable directly to each KTP are:

  • Product innovation - the development of one or more new goods, services or processes.
  • An increase of over £1 million in annual profits before tax.
  • The creation of two genuine new jobs.
  • An increase in the skills and knowledge of existing staff.

Depending on the size of your organisation, the cost to you will be from £20,300 per annum with the rest of the cost being met by a business grant – please contact us to find out more.

KTPs are just one of the business development tools we can use to help your organisation to innovate and grow.  For more information on our business support services, go to Our business services.
