Publicity Information
From innovative teaching methods and high profile speakers, to
new insights into literature and a clearer understanding of our
environment, the University of Hull is contributing to our
knowledge of the world around us.
If you’re working on something that is
particularly interesting and relevant to wider audiences,
remember that people want to know about it. The PR team receives
calls each day from journalists eager to speak to academics about
their research.
Our work presents great opportunities to
promote the University on a regional, national and international
stage – to talk about what we do best, and to reinforce the message
that our work is having an impact on society.
Read the PR
Guide to find out more about the University’s PR
function.
All requests for support are judged according
to two basic criteria:
- The potential for media interest in the project/story
- The extent to which working on the project in question will
benefit the University’s overall strategic objectives
For stories that we are unable to cover, see the
PR Toolkit for details on how you can promote your own
story as well as advice on dealing with the media.

"Public relations is the discipline which looks after
reputation, with the aim of earning understanding and support and
influencing opinion and behaviour. It is the planned and sustained
effort to establish and maintain goodwill and mutual understanding
between an organisation and its publics."
– Institute of Public Relations
"PR means telling the truth and working ethically –
even when all the media want is headlines and all the public wants
is scapegoats. Public relations fails when there is no
integrity".
– Viv Segal, MD of Sefin Marketing
