Guide to Services

The Research Funding Office are a specialist team dedicated to helping applicants secure external research funding.  We provide advice and guidance on all aspects of developing research proposals and support on managing complex projects.  We support grant applications made to a variety of sponsors, both national and international.  The support offered by us is flexible and dynamic in order to meet the different needs of the academic community.

We provide the following range of services and expertise:

  • Identifying appropriate sources of funding by circulating external research funding opportunities and carrying out searches for individual projects.
  • Offering individual advice and assistance on preparing funding applications. This includes offering advice on how to structure proposals, information to include and how to meet funders’ priorities.
  • Providing advice on the costing and pricing of research, including calculating project budgets and advising on the requirements for Full Economic Costing.
  • Checking grant applications to ensure that application requirements can be met and to give each application the best chance of being successful.
  • Advising on the various electronic grant submission systems.
  • Obtaining authorisation for grant applications on behalf of the University.  All applications must first be approved by the relevant Head of Department, Faculty Finance Office and the Faculty Dean before they can be submitted to the funder.
  • Negotiating contracts for successful research applications.
  • Giving briefings and training on funding opportunities and best practice in applying for grants.
