It is a fully refereed publication, which is rated highly in several international indices. It addresses the maritime dimensions of economic, social, cultural and environmental history. History research at Hull ranges from Palaeolithic America to the contemporary Philippines, by way of modern Australia, India, the Middle East, and Britain and Europe from the early middle ages to the twenty-first century. Thematic strengths include maritime, military, global, social, economic, environmental, cultural, intellectual and political history, as well as the history of slavery and of adaptive technologies. The school has an established track record of producing internationally-significant research, as measured by a succession of national research exercises. In REF 2014, 70% of our research was judged to be either 'world leading' or 'internationally significant'. The school has a strong tradition of supporting postgraduate and early career researchers, as well as engaging with a broad range of community groups in the UK and overseas.
