Profile

JOHN joined the Department in 2004, working on the OPI (Oceans Past Initiative), formerly known as HMAP (History of Marine Animal Populations), project from a career in Technical Authorship and IT Training. He graduated from the University of Humberside (Lincoln) with a Honours degree in Administrative Management. He has also studied Ancient History (UNISA), Civil Engineering Surveying (HNC), Systems Analysis (BCS), and Philosophy (BA Hons) at Birkbeck, London University. He changed direction to ICT and gained MCSE status (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer). He gained a pure Research Masters degree in the Philosophy of Mind (Philosophical Psychology) from the University of Hull in 2007.

He is an Associate Fellow of the HEA (Higher Education Academy), a Steering Group member of the Oceanographic Biodiversity Information System (OBIS) and International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE - UNESCO initiative), and Data Manager for the OPI. 

He is an accredited Humanistic Integrative Clinical Gestalt Psychotherapist (UKCP - UK Council for Psychotherapy) with particular interest and focus in trauma and PTSD.

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Administrative Management (FInstAM).

His latest research into the emergence, culture, impact and repression of the Gothic anti-movement in the final years of the German Democratic Republic (1981-1989) forms the basis of his PhD study (http://darkwavegdr.weebly.com/).

History Data Management, including developing data management perceptions within historical and inter-disciplinary fields.

Independent research engages Existential perceptions of embodiment through trauma from a psychotherapeutic gestalt perspective.
