University’s new Confucius Institute choir in national singing competition

The newly-established Confucius Institute choir, whose members took up the challenge of learning to sing in Chinese without any previous experience of the language, competed in a Confucius Institute singing competition in Manchester on 28 April.

Our choir of University students (primarily from Music, Philosophy and Chemistry) came second, beating well established Confucius Institutes and some professional musicians! This marks the beginning of a range of innovative activities designed to foster excellence in language teaching and learning, outreach and engagement, and to develop new cross-disciplinary academic relationships.
