Music Scholarships and
Bursaries
Instrumental/Vocal Tuition Bursary
This is available to all undergraduate and postgraduate music
students taking performance-based modules to help cover the cost of
instrumental/vocal lessons with tutors on the University Approved
Tutor List. The bursary comes with the relevant module (varying
amounts are offered depending on the module).
- Award duration: 1-3 years (subject to student module
choice)

- Amount: £300 (Year 1, 1st-study); £200 (Year 1, 2nd-study,
subject to audition); £360 (Year 2/3. solo performance); £180 (Year
2/3 ensemble performance); £600 (MMus performance)

Organ Scholarship (1 award, up to £15,000)
This scholarship is available to undergraduate music students
with organ as the first-study instrument. It is valued at £2,000
per year (£6,000 over three years) and may be held in addition to a
University of Hull Scholarship
valued at £3,000 per year (£9,000 over three years). Duties
include giving recitals, playing at official occasions, directing
the University Chapel Choir and assisting the Director of Music at

Harp Scholarship (1 award, up to £12,000)
This scholarship is available to undergraduate music students
with harp as the first-study instrument. It is valued at £1,000 per
year (£3,000 over three years) and may be held in addition to a
University of Hull Scholarship
valued at £3,000 per year (£9,000 over three years). Duties
include giving recitals, playing at official and informal
occasions, and performing in the University orchestra and other
ensembles. The scholarship will be awarded to an applicant prior to

Robert Marchant String Scholarship (4 awards, up to £10,770
each)
This is available to undergraduate music students who are first
study string players. The scholarship is currently limited to
violin, viola, cello and double bass players. The scholarship,
valued from £1,250, is awarded in addition to bursary money for
lessons on the first study instrument/voice (up to £1020 over three
years) and may be held in addition to a University of Hull
Scholarship valued at £3,000 per year (£9,000 over three years).
Duties include playing at official and informal occasions,
participating in the University Orchestra & other ensembles,
and performing in recitals and masterclasses. The scholarship will

Ouseley Choral Scholarship (1 award, up to £10,470)
This is available to undergraduate music students who are first
study singers and is currently limited to tenors and basses. The
scholarship, valued at £150, is awarded in addition to bursary
money for lessons (up to £1,020 over three years) and may be held
in addition to a University of Hull Scholarship valued at £3,000
per year (£9,000 over three years). The scholar will be
expected to take a leading part in choral singing in the University
and in the Chapel Choir, and will be eligible for solo roles in
choral and operative performances. Duties include singing at
official and informal occasions, participating in the University
Choir, Chapel Choir & other vocal ensembles, and performing in
recitals. The scholarship will be awarded to an applicant prior to

Sir Thomas Beecham Music Scholarship (1 award)
This is available to undergraduate music students on the BMus
programme. £250 is awarded to the student who attains the highest
examination results at the end of the first semester (Year 1).
University Scholarships and Bursaries
University of Hull Scholarships
This is a non-repayable award of £3,000 for each year of study
up to three years in total. University of Hull Scholarships are
awarded to all new Year 1 students who have a Residual Household
Income of less that £25,000 per year and who have
achieved results of AAB of higher in three A-Levels (not including
General Studies), or equivalent. Terms

University of Hull Bursaries
This is a one-off, non-repayable award of £3,000 given in the
first year of study only. Bursaries are awarded to all new Year 1
students who have a Residual Household Income of less than £25,000
per year. Terms
