Postgraduate Study at Hull

Some 30 students, from Britain and abroad, are enrolled each year in our certificate, diploma and MA or MRes taught courses, or are pursuing individual research projects for the MPhil or PhD. They form an intellectually stimulating and socially supportive international community of postgraduate students. Diploma courses are identical in content and structure to the one-year MAs but require no dissertation. Each of the MAs and the MRes can be taken full-time in the course of one year, or part-time over two years, half the modules being taken in each year.

All postgraduate students have ready access to the University's central library and computing services. Registration for our postgraduate programmes also gives automatic membership of our purpose-designed Graduate School with access to its 80 networked computers and common-rooms, open 24 hours, seven days a week, including public holidays.

MA Bursaries 2012

The English Department is able to offer four bursaries of £500 each for the coming academic year (students starting MA programmes in September 2012). The closing date for applications is 30 June 2012.  All MA applications already received will be automatically included in the competition, once an offer has been made.

Conditions for the award are as follows:

  • Awards are open to all full-time Home/EU students* on any of the MA programmes in the English department running in 2012-13.
  • Awards will constitute a £500 fee waiver.
  • Awards will be decided by a panel of MA conveners, and be offered on the basis of academic achievement.
  • Applicants will not be interviewed or asked to provide additional documentation.
  • Award-holders will be informed by post within the first fortnight of July.

International students are already entitled to apply independently to the Faculty for a £1,000 fee waiver.

If you have any inquiries about the competition, please contact Professor Valerie Sanders on V.R.Sanders@hull.ac.uk or 01486-466918.

An extremely well-planned and executed course. I gained much - both personally and professionally. All my lecturers were immensely kind and helpful not to mention leading experts in their fields. I have little to mention in terms of complaints...
