Discover History at Hull
If you are interested in studying history across a
wide range of topics and periods, in small groups with enthusiastic
teachers, then the Department of History is the place for you. Our
30 members of staff
are active historians working on everything from ancient Rome to
modern Britain, who offer over 100 modules in which small
group teaching and quality contact hours are central. Our range of
choices means that you can build your own programme of study,
ranging across
periods, or concentrate on the history that is most interesting
to you. We also support your learning, with our state of the art
Virtual Learning
Environment, through an 'applied history' stream run through
the new Hull History
Centre, and drawing on the resources of the Brynmor Jones
Library. The coming year will see us continue to invest in
new
staff, in the refurbishment of our learning and teaching
spaces, and in major projects like the £15 million redevelopment of
the University Library. Employability and the practical application
of history is supported through the use personal development
activities, and through our
Applied History module. So why not join us at one of our
open
days?
We are happy to receive applications for
students from a range of schools and backgrounds. Though most of
our applicants come to us within a year of finishing sixth form or
college, we also welcome mature students and those returning
to University after a stretch in the real world. We recognise the
full range of pre-degree level qualifications, and where these are
absent we consider students on the basis of submitted work and
interview. We welcome the full range of students, including those
with family responsibilities and those who wish to pursue courses
part-time.
