Courses at Hull
Certificate in Archaeology
Archaeology is the study of the human past through material
remains, such as artifacts and buildings. Through archaeology
ancient landscapes can be reconstructed by studying a wide range of
evidence including plant and animal remains and features revealed
through aerial photography.
Archaeology provides the only evidence for milestones in human
development such as the beginning of farming and the discovery of
metalworking.
This certificate course, worth 120 Credits, undertaken over two
years is the academic equivalent of the first year of a degree
course. It aims to provide:
- A grounding, through theory and practical work, in the main
techniques used by archaeologists
- An introduction to the archaeology of Britain from the hunter
gatherers of the Palaeolithic, to the end of the Middle Ages
Throughout the course examples will be drawn from the rich
archaeological heritage of our region which will be set in a
national context, and there will be opportunities to get involved
in fieldwork and practical activities.
