The Hull History Partnership
Originally formed in
2009, the initial aims of the Hull History Partnership were to
promote and enhance the History teaching and learning experience
across the Sixth Form and Higher Education sectors in Hull and the
East Riding. The idea was to provide training routes to and
opportunities for young people wishing to develop careers in
History teaching, archives and heritage work, research in
universities, and work on public and community History projects.
The project aims to provide mentoring for sixth-form History
students to facilitate their smooth transition to the expectations
of university study and to support Hull University undergraduate
students as they build their curriculum vitae for
employment.
The Hull History
Partnership is made up of a number of staff in the History
Department, several staff of the Hull History Centre (Archives) and
several participating History teachers from local schools and
colleges. There have been a series of early projects that have
primarily focused on providing internships for History
undergraduate students at the Hull History Centre (six in 2009 and
six in 2010).

History Interns and
Mentors, the Class of 2010
In 2010 the Hull History
Partnership was awarded a teaching development grant by the Higher
Education Academy to further its work in enhancing the learning and
teaching of History in Hull and the region. The partners are
focusing their energies on the employability of History students at
all levels from sixth form through to postgraduate. Future plans
include:
- Embedding the
undergraduate internship scheme in the curriculum of the History
Department through the development of an Applied History
module for students in the final year of their History degree;
- An AS Level
work placement scheme for school and college pupils run by the
History Department and designed to enhance individual History UCAS
applications for university entrance;
- Lecture
podcasts for use by schools, colleges and the local community.
News update
- A presentation on the Hull
History Partnership was given to the History Subject Centre (Higher

show of that presentation is available on this website.
- The Hull History Partnership
had its first meeting on 31 January 2011 with representatives
present from the Department of History, the Hull History Centre and
several regional schools and colleges. Arising from this, two
initiatives are being pursued:

applications starting 2011;
