Migration and Gender
Project
Dr Athina Karatzogianni begins work in March
2010 for the 'MIG@NET Transnational Digital Networks, Migration and
Gender' project. It is funded under the European Framework 7 work
programme: Culture in the creation of a European space of
communication. The project addresses the question of participation
of migrant individuals and groups in transnational digital networks
by employing innovative methodologies combining online and off-line
research. To disseminate information and put the findings of the
research into practice, the project will develop a transnational
digital platform and an interactive digital game. The contribution
in Media Culture and Society (MCS) to the project is to both engage
in research with all partners and to lead the Thematic Study on
Intercultural Conflict and Dialogue. This includes investigating
transnational forms of conflict with particular emphasis on how
gender relations are shaped and enacted within. Particular
attention will be paid to the exploration of creative dimensions
potentially hidden in conflict that could eventually lead to
intercultural dialogue and cooperation both among diasporas and
between migrant communities and host societies.
Virtual Collaboration
The Virtual Collaboration, Communication and
Conflict (VIRT3C) research group is launched 19-20 March with the
conference themed 'Developing the Virtual Society: Conflict in the
Adoption of Collaborative Networks' with the support of the
Institute of Creative Industries, Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences at the University of Hull. More information about the
themes explored, collaborators and speakers can be found
