Profile

Frank Dignan is a practising barrister who trained for the Bar in Manchester gaining a distinction, before completing pupillage at Albany Chambers in London’s Bedford Row. He specialises in Crime and has defended and prosecuted extensively, and is on the Attorney General’s list for prosecution work. He is regularly instructed by Henry & Co. Solicitors of Stockport, a leading criminal practice in Greater Manchester. Frank has appeared in a large variety of cases; High Court, Crown Court, Family and Child proceedings and the Immigration Appeals Tribunal. He currently practices from Nexus Chambers in Lincoln’s Inn Field. He acted as a legal advisor to the Spodden Valley Environmental Campaign Group in Rochdale.

He had previously worked for the Probation Service, being in charge of non custodial Community Service orders. Later he worked for BBC Radio on sports programmes and for commercial channels.

He regularly contributes to media coverage of current affairs. This has included, ‘Kilroy’ (Kosovo conflict), ‘Newsnight’ (Defence policy), BBC TV ‘Look North’ (Iraq Enquiry), and Radio Humberside, (the Jury system). Articles include contributions in ‘Law Society Gazette’ (Asbos) and ‘Yorkshire Post’ (Parliamentary Selections).

He served in local government, West Yorkshire County Council (1983-86) Leeds City Council (1988-96). His particular areas of interest were Passenger Transport, Education, and Sport and Leisure. A former parliamentary candidate (Labour), he played rugby league for the University of Leeds.

He has previously taught at Bradford and at Leeds Metropolitan University where he had responsibility for the LLM in Criminal Prosecution and was involved in assessing CPS practitioners in the Magistrates’ Courts.
