MaMRI: Media & Memory Research Initiative

The Media & Memory Research Initiative (MaMRI) was established at the University of Hull’s Scarborough Campus in March 2012.

Mission Statement

The Media & Memory Research Initiative’s mission is to serve as a centre of excellence for research on the collection, preservation, interpretation, and dissemination of mediated memories, especially those that may be vulnerable due to institutional neglect or association with emerging areas of interest. MaMRI is dedicated to serving its community of researchers by providing both a physical environment in Scarborough for people working on related areas to converge as well as online resources for the presentation of research on mediated memories; and to undertake other activities related to these purposes. This research initiative aims to take a proactive pedagogical stance to help establish the study of memory in an evermore-mediated global culture.

Principal Aims

MaMRI aims to:

  1. facilitate studies on the collection, preservation, interpretation and dissemination of mediated memories;
  2. bring attention to vulnerable and/or emerging mediated memories;
  3. provide opportunities for researchers working on mediated memories and technologies of memory to network with others working on related areas;
  4. provide online resources for the presentation of research on mediated memories and technologies of memory;
  5. take a proactive pedagogical stance in promoting the study of memory in the context of media technologies.
