Reciting for Charity

To raise money for a project to build a community for the Homeless in Hull, the DML took part in a 'Segue of Poetry Readings and Music'

On 20th October, members of staff from the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Hull took part in a Segue of Poetry Readings and Music at Hull Truck Theatre before a fresh rendition of Federico García Lorca’s masterwork of desperation and unfulfilled desire, Yerma, directed by Natalie Abrahami. The event was extremely well-attended, aided by the efforts of the Language Society, and was one of a planned series of Segue organised by The Emmaus Trust, which aims to raise money for a project to build a community for the Homeless in Hull. Amongst music and short prose extracts, poems by García Lorca and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz were recited by Dr Robert J. Miles, Karla Ortega-Porcayo and Amanda Lowe.
