Peter Young is Head of Department and Professor of Criminology. He joined the University of Hull in 2004. Previously he was Head of the School of Law, University of Edinburgh and Director of the Institute of Criminology, University College Dublin.

Research Interests and Publications

He has research interests in the sociology of punishment and criminal justice, in comparative criminology and in the sociology of harm and suffering. His publications include, The Power to Punish, 1983 (with David Garland), Crime and Criminal Justice in Scotland (1997), and Crime in Ireland (2001). He has also published articles on theoretical criminology.
