Criminology is concerned with understanding crime and how it is dealt with. It draws on a number of disciplines such as social policy, sociology, psychology and law. Criminology investigates a range of theoretical and policy issues relating to the extent, nature and distribution of crime; explanations of crime; the control of crime, including crime prevention, policing, the operation of the criminal justice process and methods of punishment; and the nature and extent of crime victimisation and the role of victims in the criminal justice system.
