School of Education & Social Sciences

We are a multidisciplinary School of Education & Social Sciences with a distinctive profile of teaching and research that brings together a world class staff with expertise in Anthropology, Criminology, Gender Studies, Religion, and Sociology.

The research interests of staff cover wide areas, exploring themes from the local to the global. The multi-disciplinary nature of much of our work encourages diversity and values different approaches to research. Here, you will find a distinctive and lively research culture characterised by intellectual curiosity and professionalism.

The School of Education & Social Sciences attracts a healthy stream of externally supported research funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the British Academy, international organisations, central and local government and by voluntary and charitable agencies.

Our teaching is informed by the latest research and this is reflected in our National Student Survey success, in which past students commented on the interesting curricula and enthusiastic staff.
