Research in Social Sciences
Department of Social Sciences has a reputation for world class,
innovative research in all of its areas; anthropology, criminology,
social policy, sociology, social work and social justice. The
research interests of staff cover wide areas, exploring themes from
the local to the global. Moreover, the multi-disciplinary nature of
much of our work encourages diversity and values different
approaches to research. There is a distinctive and lively research
culture characterised by intellectual curiosity and
professionalism. Department of Scoail Sciences attracts a healthy
stream of externally supported research funded by the Economic and
Social Research Council, the Arts and Humanities Research Council,
the British Academy, international organizations, central and local
