Department of Social Sciences has a reputation for world class, innovative research in all of its areas; anthropology, criminology, social policy, sociology, social work and social justice. The research interests of staff cover wide areas, exploring themes from the local to the global. Moreover, the multi-disciplinary nature of much of our work encourages diversity and values different approaches to research. There is a distinctive and lively research culture characterised by intellectual curiosity and professionalism. Department of Scoail Sciences attracts a healthy stream of externally supported research funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the British Academy, international organizations, central and local government and by voluntary and charitable agencies.
