Service User/Carer Advisory Group
Welcome to
the University of Hull Service User and Carer web
pages!
Background
The General Social Care Council is committed
to promoting involvement and participation of service users/carers
in all aspects of social work training.
The University of Hull Service User/Carer
Advisory Group is co-ordinated by a member of the academic staff
who is actively supported by members of the group. The more
experienced ‘core’ members also take on important roles in
meetings, strategic decision making and supporting and training
newer members.
About us
We are proud of our large (currently
40-strong) and robust Service User/Carer Advisory Group.
Recruitment is often through word of mouth and numbers have
recently risen through the partnership work with Dove House
Hospice. The University of Hull was commissioned by Skills
for Care in 2009 to undertake a review and evaluation of the impact
of its service user and carer involvement and to further develop
links with the Dove House Hospice Service User Involvement Group.
An abundance of evidence within the Skills for Care report show
that service users and carers are making a very valuable
contribution to the training of the social workers of the
future!
At the University of Hull we involve service
user and carers in a vast range of work to add quality to the
teaching. Service users and carers are invited to participate
in a way in which suits them. Some of the aspects of
involvement include;
- Participation in initial
student interviews
- Participation in student
interviews for practice placement
- Participation in student teaching
- Involvement with the
Practice Learning Assessor Education Programme
- Taking part in group
decision making and professional committees
- Involvement in
discussions with students
- Engaging with and
supporting Dove House Hospice Service Users
- ‘Student in Practice’
