The Wilberforce Institute for the study of
Slavery and Emancipation is one of the few research centres in the
world that offers expertise on both historical and contemporary
slavery. The Institute is particularly keen to encourage
applications for Ph.D. scholarships (deadline of 12 March 2012 for
study commencing in September 2012) in the following areas:

Historical Slavery in the Americas
•
The Abolition of Slavery and the Transition to Freedom
•
Memories, Legacies and Representations of Slavery and Abolition
•
Modern Slavery, Human Rights and Social Justice
A formal research proposal should be submitted
with your application (1-2 sides of A4), outlining the scope of
your proposed topic, underlying research questions, and rough
chapter outlines.
