Hull produces keynote speakers for Logistics Ireland 2009

Leading academics, Professor David Grant, director of the Logistics Institute, and logistics guru and visiting business school professor, Martin Christopher, recently presented keynote speeches at Logistics Ireland 2009, Ireland's largest supply chain management and logistics event.

Organised by Ed Sweeney, director of learning at the National Institute of Transport & Logistics (Ireland) and PhD student under Professor Grant's supervision, the theme of this year's conference was 'Supply Chain Management and Logistics in a Volatile Global Environment'.

In the opening presentation, Professor Grant provided the 200 plus delegates with an insight into the role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in addressing the challenges presented by the current economic climate.

Professor Martin Christopher closed the event with his take on the modern supply chain and the advances required to ensure the process becomes more agile and better able to cope with volatility and uncertainty.

The event also featured the launch of a new book 'Supply Chain Management and Logistics in a Volatile Global Environment', which explores many of the topics presented at the conference and includes chapters contributed by Professors Grant and Christopher.

'Volatility caused by the current economic climate is affecting all businesses which have a supply chain to manage,' commented Professor Grant. 'Through events such as Logistics Ireland 2009, we hope to be able to offer practical advice, thought and guidance as to how organisation's can weather the financial storm.'
