University of Hull Logistics Institute Research Centre
Established in 2005 and based in the Logistics Institute, the
UHLIrc conducts critical research into logistics and supply chain
management, working with national and international
organisations.
We are distinguished by a focus on studying supply chains as
socio-technical systems and seeking to integrate appropriate
technologies; the use of multi-methodological approaches; and
constructing simulation and optimisation models.
Our members are responsible for the research components of
grants which aim to assist SMEs in the region, as part of their
work to explore the impact of best practice logistics on economic
development.
Particular interests of UHLIrc staff include:
- logistics and communications technologies
- logistics modelling and simulation
- people in logistics
- lean and agile logistics
- port-centric logistics and regional economic development
- food and retail logistics
- logistics technologies
UHLIrc is rapidly developing a strong research culture to
support its staff and PhD students. This is assisted by the
state-of-the-art facilities, frequent interaction with UHLI client
companies and Advisory Board members, and the close involvement of
visiting professors.
Over the next five years, UHLIrc will become firmly established
as a world-class centre of research on logistics and supply chain
management. As part of its strategy to achieve this, it frequently
interacts with and benchmarks itself against leading UK and
international logistics centres.
We are proud to organise the annual Humber International
Logistics Convention which fosters academic-industry collaboration
and to have hosted the highly prestigious Logistics Research
Network annual conference and coorganised the annual International
Symposium in Logistics.
