Overview

Economics has a strong research culture and an established reputation in several fields, notably applied microeconomics, international economics, economic development, macroeconomics, and environmental economics. Our active internal and external seminar programmes foster the overall research effort of staff.

In recent years, we have produced a continuous flow of high quality research outputs (journal articles, edited collections and monographs) and external research funding (from ESRC, Leverhulme Trust, UK government, and EU Framework Programme 7). Articles have appeared in leading journals, including: Ecological Economics, Economic Record, Economica, Economics Letters, Education Economics, European Economic Review, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Journal of Economic Psychology, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Monetary Economics, Public Choice, Regional Studies, Review of Development Economics, Review of International Economics, Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Scottish Journal of Political Economy, Small Business Economics, Southern Economic Journal, Urban Studies, and World Development.

Looking ahead, we are committed to raising the level and ambition of our research to world leading and international standards of excellence. As well as focusing on high quality publication in the core areas of economics, we will also focus on interdisciplinary research initiatives by providing an economics-based contribution to such projects.
