Faculty of Education

Welcome to the Faculty of Education, a vibrant academic community with a strong commitment to serving the needs of students.

If you are searching for lifelong learning opportunities or want to develop or enhance a career in education or the wider children’s workforce, we can help.

The faculty is made up of:

Our courses

Teacher and child

We offer a variety of exciting continuing professional development opportunities and innovative part-time and full-time programmes of study as welle as professional development, including:

  • Flexible, part-time short courses provided through the Centre for Lifelong Learning, with the option to build credits to get a University Foundation Award.
  • Foundation degrees, BA (Hons) degrees, Masters degrees, Doctoral degrees and professional training routes, including teacher training pathways provided by the Centre for Educational Studies and the Scarborough School of Education.

Our students

Our students benefit from a high-quality, personalised learning experience delivered by dedicated and supportive staff.

Our research

Many of our staff are engaged in research that has real impact. In the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) more than 80% of our research outputs were judged to be of international standard or above and we were commended for our high number of doctoral awards.

We have a vibrant programme of research seminars and building research capacity workshops and are involved in projects that have national and internationally excellent outputs.

Research in the faculty is organised around four thematic areas: leadership, policy and theory, children’s health, wellbeing and inclusion, pedagogy and professional practice and technology enhanced learning.

Our partnerships

Engagement with institutions, organisations and communities outside the University is important to us.

We have strong partnerships with more than 600 primary schools, secondary schools and colleges in Teesside, North Yorkshire, the East Riding of Yorkshire and North & North East Lincolnshire.

Our international profile

We welcome international students from across the world including the Gulf and the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, China and the Far East.

Our international partnership and project work is also growing with initiatives such as a partnership with the College of Basic Education in Kuwait to share good practice in Initial Teacher Training.
