Inter-Professional Services Centre for Children, Young People and Families

The Inter-Professional Services Centre (ISC) helps professionals work together to provide excellent services for children, young people and families.

Stand out from the crowdThe centre, which is supported by the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Health and Social Care, also helps us build stronger links with other university departments, health agencies, local authority agencies and voluntary organisations, and find new partners.

These relationships are an important part of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, which prepare students for professional work with children, young people and families.

News and events

The ISC Annual Conference - November 2011

Professor Lord Robert Winston delivered a key note speech in the Allam Theatre during the morning of Friday18th November and the conference continued on the Saturday with a day packed with workshops to support practitioners working with children and young people in the health, social care, education and the voluntary sector.  Sessions were designed to enhance the way practitioners work with and for children and young people and included:

  • "Through the Looking Glass" – feelings, fantasy and reality of reflective learning - Jayne Knott and Carol Young
  • Creative movement “Invigorate and facilitate physical play”
    - McMillan Nursery School and Children’s Centre
  • Learning stories – foregrounding the voice of the child in his or her own learning - Heather Davies and Claire Head
  • Creative conversations – talking tables - Jo Traunter and Tricia Shaw
  • Supporting new and young parents - Ally Dunhill
  • Stopping and starting “motivators and barriers to children’s physical activity” - Barbara Elliott
  • Sexual health – body awareness - Sue Hannigan
  • Practical support for children who are bereaved - Judith Carter and the IQUOLS team
