Referencing is an important part of university study and academia. This section introduces the concepts of referencing and paraphrasing that form an important part of academic writing and also gives links to guides on how to reference using specific referencing systems. Introduction to referencing (including advice on avoiding plagiarism) Paraphrasing Bibliographic software (RefWorks and EndNote) As from the 2014/15 academic year, the university only* accepts the following referencing systems: Your department will advise you on which system to use. *Departmental Exemptions Currently the only department that has an exemption from using one of the four systems above is Chemistry who use the system developed by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
