In his lecture, Professor Peter Raynes
examines the background to the technology of liquid crystals, the
Hull invention itself, and how it was developed into highly
successful commercial products.
As the LCD market developed towards larger
displays showing ever larger amounts of information, the technology
diversified considerably, and the lecture will conclude with a
glimpse of the UK's wider contribution to this development.
