Launch of bursary and scholarship
scheme
22 December 2011
The University of Hull is launching a major new financial
support package for students starting higher education at Hull in
2012.
The University of Hull’s bursaries and scholarships will
offer new students from low income backgrounds a generous helping
hand with fees, accommodation, learning resources such as textbooks
or computers, and other living expenses.
There are two separate routes of financial
support:
scholarships and
bursaries.
Scholarships are worth £9,000 over three years for
eligible students who achieve grades of AAB at A-level, or
equivalent (not including General Studies) coming from backgrounds
with a household income of less than £25,000. The funding is broken
down as follows: £3,000 paid to the student each year for three
years. Of that, £1,500 is a tuition fee waiver and the remainder
can be used for accommodation, resources or other expenses.
Bursaries are worth £3,000 and are for the first year
of study only. They apply to any eligible student coming from
backgrounds with a household income of less than £25,000. Again
they are broken down into fee waivers and other expenses.
Exclusions for both scholarships and bursaries
do apply for students who are funded via other organisations such
as the NHS or Teacher Development Agency. Check the websites above
for details. Students can only receive either a bursary or a
scholarship, not both.
University of Hull Vice-Chancellor, Professor
Calie Pistorius, said: “The University is proud to offer such a
generous package of financial help to those students who need it
the most. We have a strong commitment to welcoming students from a
diverse range of backgrounds and we do not want our prospective
applicants to feel that cost is a barrier to gaining a degree from
Hull.”
The University is also offering another route
of funding to its partner schools and colleges only, under
the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship Fund.
