MSc in Accounting and Finance
About the course
Our MSc programme is designed to develop an understanding of accounting and finance in global organisations and to provide you with important training for careers in the accounting and financial sectors.
A distinctive feature of the programme is that it is designed for graduates from any discipline with a strong interest in the foundations of accounting and finance who wish to acquire analytical skills, both numerical and discursive, to pursue a career in the financial sector. You do not need to have studied in this discipline, but we recommend that students have a basic knowledge and understanding of accounting and/or business studies to make the most of this programme.
The programme also caters for those who seek a general career in business or public service but who want to know more about how the accounting and finance sector operates and how it influences stakeholders, including managers, providers of finance and government.
A new system of postgraduate loans for Masters degrees in the UK will be introduced for the 2016/17 academic year. They will provide up to £10,000 a year for taught and research Masters courses in all subject areas. For more information, visit our Postgraduate Loans page.

The programme is designed for graduates from any discipline with a strong interest in the foundations of accounting and finance. However, we do recommend that you have a basic knowledge and understanding of this area of business studies.You will have a good honours degree or equivalent, one academic reference and a good command of English.
If you require a Tier 4 student visa to study or your first language is not English you will be required to provide acceptable evidence of your English language proficiency level. See more information here
You will study subjects such as:
- earnings management and corporate governance
- empirical asset pricing and market efficiency
- insider trading
- financial markets
- decision making in accounting and finance
- auditing and taxation
- public sector accounting
As with many of our programmes, you will also study professional skills and ethics, research methods and undertake a dissertation.

Careers support is available from the Student and Graduate Centre for Professional Success which is the central point of contact for connecting students and business.
Bringing together employability activities from across Hull University Business School, it offers support such as mentoring, CV writing workshops, and help with working with business through a year in industry or short-term internships and projects.
