The BSc Health Professional Studies programme comprises modules at degree level only and requires a minimum of 120 credits at certificate level and 120 credits at diploma level for entry.

The programme is part of a flexible framework of study which enables you to enter at Level 6 and follow a study pathway appropriate to your area of work.You will meet with the Programme Leader and, through the process of programme planning, select the most appropriate options depending on your previous qualifications and experience.

The programme involves studying two compulsory modules and a choice of optional modules. If you wish to study in one of the named pathways, you must take at least three modules from that speciality group.The named pathways are:

  • Child Care (470013)
  • Critical Care (470032)
  • Mental Health Care (470012)
  • Midwifery (470023)
  • Neonatal Care (470019)
  • Oncology and Pallitive Care (470015)
  • Systemic Practice (Family Therapy) (470033)
  • Tissue Viability (470014)

For those health professionals who have already completed a Bachelors degree but wish to continue their studies in greater depth, the programme is available as a Professional Development Diploma or, in some cases, as a Graduate Diploma.

Duration

Maximum three years part-time.

Location

Most modules are delivered at the University’s Hull Campus. Some may involve e-learning supported by a virtual learning environment.

Start

There are two intakes per academic year: September (Semester 1) and January/February (Semester 2).

Learning and teaching

Various learning and teaching methods are used, depending on the module. These include work-based learning, practice learning, e-learning and the more traditional classroom-based approaches.

Assessment

Some modules have practical assessments, such as portfolios and clinical examinations, while others use essay-based assessments and seen or unseen examinations.

Cost

Applicants from the local area accessing the programme and individual modules may be eligible for funding via the contract with the strategic health authority (SHA).There are also opportunities for self-funding. Current costs are available on the faculty website.

Entry qualifications

The programme is open to people working in health and social care environments with a Higher Education Diploma or 120 credits at both Level 4 and Level 5 (or equivalent).

Registration and induction

Registration sessions are held at the University prior to the start of Semester 1 and Semester 2. In September, registration sessions are usually organised at Scunthorpe General Hospital and the Diana, Princess of Wales, Hospital in Grimsby. Two induction events are held each academic year.
