Health Professional Studies Diploma part time course

This part-time modular programme is designed for people working within health and social care environments with a Diploma in Higher Education and access to study at degree level (Level 6).You may choose to access individual modules or to work towards the award. Diploma students are required to gain 120 credits by undertaking the two compulsory modules and choosing from a variety of optional modules.

Duration

For the diploma, the duration is a maximum of three years part-time.

Location

Most modules are delivered at the University’s Hull Campus. Others may be delivered at the Diana, Princess of Wales, Hospital in Grimsby and at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Start

There are two intakes per academic year: September (Semester 1) and January/February (Semester 2).

Learning and teaching

A variety of different learning and teaching methods are used, depending on the module. These include work-based learning, practice learning, e-learning and the more traditional classroom-based approaches.

Assessment

Some modules have practical assessments (such as portfolios and clinical examinations) while others use essay-based assessment and seen/unseen examinations.

Cost

Applicants from the local area accessing the programme and individual modules may be eligible for funding via the contract with the Strategic Health Authority (SHA).There are also opportunities for self-funding. Current costs are available on the faculty website.

Entry qualifications

Any health and social care worker can access the programme. Students who wish to undertake the diploma are required to have 120 credits at certificate level (Level 4) or equivalent.

Registration and induction

Registration sessions are held at the University prior to the start of Semester 1 and Semester 2. In September, sessions are also held at Scunthorpe General Hospital and the Diana, Princess of Wales, Hospital in Grimsby.Two induction events are held each academic year. How to apply

Anyone wishing to obtain funding via the SHA should apply through the NHS trust or PCT training departments in the first instance.
