Programme codes: 484842 / 484838 / 484841
This degree programme, with pathways in Upper GI
Endoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy and Patient Care, provides a
framework for study which has a high degree of relevance to the
field of gastroenterology, is of significant relevance to students
and employers, and allows for extended learning across professional
groups.
All modules are also available on a stand-alone basis as part of
continuing professional development.
The programme provides opportunities to develop knowledge and
understanding within gastroenterology, with or without endoscopic
practice. Students from a variety of backgrounds are encouraged to
apply, since we encourage the sharing of knowledge and expertise
within an inter-professional framework. The three pathways share
four core modules, and you study two modules specific to your
chosen pathway
Duration
One year full-time or two years part-time.
Location
Each of the modules is delivered online and is supported by
workshops which are held on the University campus.
Start
September each year.
Learning and teaching
This is essentially a work-based programme, and learning will be
facilitated and supported in the workplace. Different modes of
teaching will be employed, including the use of a virtual learning
environment and University-based workshops. Students applying for
endoscopic practice pathways must be employed within a relevant
health care centre which can provide additional hands-on
training.
Assessment
Each module will have its own assessment method. Assessment
methods are varied throughout the programme to enable all students
to demonstrate a variety of learning styles.
Cost
Applicants who are employed by NHS trusts or PCTs will be
eligible for funding from the NHS Yorkshire and the Humber
Strategic Health Authority (SHA). Facilities are available for
self-funding students.
Entry qualifications
Students wishing to access the BSc pathways must
- Have successfully achieved the DipHE Gastroenterology (please
request additional information), or
