Staff
We are a small, friendly centre that specialises in teaching and
research with a strong emphasis on fieldwork. We have about 50
students a year from a wide range of backgrounds studying degrees
in Coastal Marine Biology, Environmental Science and Ecology. We
aim to produce high calibre graduates that can combine a good
theoretical knowledge of their subject with skill and expertise in
the field. Our research is focussed on applied environmental
problems from the shores of the North Sea to the rainforests of
Indonesia.
Employers in the environmental sector are increasingly looking
for people with technical as well as theoretical ability. Our focus
on fieldwork means that CEMS graduates fit a niche that few others
can.
We understand that students learn best in different ways so we
teach our courses in different ways: there are lectures, small
group tutorials, and web sessions. And we don't just rely on exams
to assess your learning - we use oral presentations, written
reports, essays and web presentations to give everyone a chance to
shine.
About 40% of your time here will be spent working in the lab or
field. You'll also have the opportunity to train to PADI Divemaster
level (the standard required in order to work as a scientific
diver) and go on field trips to Indonesia, Africa, Mallorca and
Scotland.
At CEMS we believe that our students' success is the best
measure of our success. Why not order a prospectus, come along to
one of our open days and find out what we're all about?
