Mr Sunil Murlidhar Shastri
Lecturer in Marine Policy and Senior Tutor
Admissions Tutor
Sunil is a Lecturer in Marine Policy since
1994 at the University of Hull where he serves on Court, Council
and Senate: the three apex Committees of the University. He is a
Senior Tutor of the University and the Admissions Tutor for the
Centre for Environmental and Marine Sciences. He has
attended, at various times, the Indian Institute of Technology,
International Ocean Institute, Aachen Technical University,
Dalhousie University, London School of Economics and Harvard
University.
He has previously researched in blasting
physics, taught mining engineering and worked as an ocean engineer.
Sunil is a committed Rotarian and is a past President of the Rotary
Club of Scarborough Cavaliers.
He was born in India in 1955 and has lived in
England since 1988 with his wife and son.

Research Interests:
Sunil's academic interests lie in Ocean and
Environmental Governance to include marine and environmental law
and policy and integrated coastal zone management. He travels
widely and speaks frequently on these issues within the purview of
his MasterClass and is well known in international conference
circuits. The MasterClass addresses what he calls the ‘Seven
Pillars’ viz, Science and technology of resources, Geopolitical
economy of resources, Institutions and organizations, Legislations
and implementation, Role of civil society, Financial initiatives,

He is actively involved in the work of
Greenwich Forum, UK All Party Parliamentary Group, International
Union for the Conservation of the Nature, International Law
Association, Oslo and Paris Commission, International Council for
Exploration of the Seas, Society for Underwater Technology and the
Global Forum on Oceans Coasts and Islands, among others. Locally,
he works with the Flamborough Head Maritime Forum and he was the
Secretary of the erstwhile Marine Forum for Environmental
Issues.
