Postgraduate degrees

The Department of Biological Sciences offers taught MSc courses and supervision of research degrees (MSc, PhD) in a stimlating environment and with access to excellent facilities.

PhD: You will spend three years doing in-depth, novel research under the advice and direction of at least two experienced academic researchers.  The emphasis will be on doing high-quality research that leads to publications in internationally recognised scientific journals.  At the end of your degree you will submit a research thesis for evaluation by a panel of experts including an external examiner.

MSc by Research:  You will spend one year on a research project closely advised by your research supervisor. At the end of your project you will be required to submit a research thesis, which will be evaluated by a research panel.

PhD and MSc project topics should be relevant for the research done in the selected theme so please contact members of the research theme you are interested in.

Taught MSc: You will undertake a two-semester taught element to attain the level of postgraduate diploma, followed by a one-semester research project to complete the MSc stage of the degree. We are currently offering two taught MSc course:
