HEA Fellowship Awards
Our commitment to research-led teaching: three new HEA
Fellowship awards and success in PDP Academy 12
The Department has renamed itself as the Department of
Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences to reflect the breadth of
its research-led teaching in the fields of Geography, Environmental
Sciences and EarthSciences. We are delighted to announce that three
members of staff: Dr Lewis Holloway, Dr Malcolm Lillie and Dr Jane
Reed were awarded Higher Education Academy Fellowships this summer
to reflect their demonstrable commitment to teaching. Dr Jane
Bunting is already a longstanding Fellow of the HEA.
In addition to taught modules, we are busy developing parallel
support for students’ related skills-development activities
(Personal Development Planning) to strengthen their employability
prospects. We were a trailblazer for the adoption of dedicated
PebblePad software in 2011-12. Dr Reed has now been awarded a place
on the Centre for Recording Achievement’s PDP Academy 12 programme,
for a joint project with Biology to develop a dedicated
dissertation support area in PebblePad, Dissertation Direct. The
PDP Academy programme provides project teams with an external
‘critical friend’ to support project developments and with
opportunities to work with others on the programme with similar
aims and objectives.
