Profile

Marco has a PhD in Mathematics from ETH Zurich, earned by studying the foundations of statistics, and in particular the likelihood approach to statistics, under the supervision of Professor Frank Hampel. Thanks to a post-doctoral fellowship, he then started to investigate the connections between this approach and the theories of imprecise probability at the Department of Statistics of LMU Munich, where he subsequently took up a temporary lectureship. Marco joined the University of Hull in September 2014.

Research

Research group: Foundations of Statistics

My main research interests lie in the study of reasoning and decision making under uncertainty, an interdisciplinary research field spanning statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, and philosophy. In particular, I am interested in the likelihood approach to statistics, a unified approach to dealing with uncertainty that I have applied for example to graphical models, robust statistics, and regression with interval data.
