Facilities
The MBE group is based in the recently refurbished and very
well-equipped Medical Engineering labs in the Robert Blackburn
building. Our facilities include:
Advance Imaging for 3D model generation
including a microCT scanner and 3D digitiser.
Biomaterials Test Laboratory to determine the
material properties and characteristics of biological and
biomedical materials, including a nano-indentation and dynamic
mechanical thermal analysis, differenbtial scanning calorimeter -
and dedicated material preparation suite.
Biomechanical Test Laboratory including
tension/compression testing and fatigue test machines, laser
speckle interferometry, and data-loggers for both static and
dynamic strain gauge analysis.
Software Laboratory providing access to a wide
range of software, e.g. image processing and visualisation, 3D CAD
modelling, finite element analysis, kinematic simulation, and model
development software.
In addition we have access to other facilities elsewhere in the
University, including:
High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster.
HIVE - Hull Immersive Visualization Environment
Suite (with interactive 3D visualisation facilities including an
auditorium with back-projected stereoscopic work wall and 14
camera motion tracking system, portable 3D projectors and VR
helmets).
Sport, Health and Exercise
Science Laboratories (with exercise physiology
facilities, isokinetic dynamometer, Neurocom dynamic balance
system, gait analysis, motion tracking, force plates etc).
Plus access to the University's NMR and microscopy suite (SEM,
TEM and confocal microscopy), and advanced engineering facilities
(CAD/CAM, CNC and rapid-prototyping machines, and mechanical &
electronic workshops).
