How to apply
A Physics degree at Hull offers insight into the mysteries
of the physical world and universe. It provides the
conceptual and mathematical understanding of fundamental and
applied topics required for a research career. It fosters
the skills needed to apply scientific knowledge for careers in
industry. A Physics degree is also ideal for those who are
fascinated by science but are looking for a general professional
career. At Hull we emphasise numerical, problem solving,
presentational and other transferable skills valued by
graduate employers.
All of our programmes, except for the BSc Physics and Philosophy
degree, are accredited by the Institute of Physics, guaranteeing
delivery of all core topics of physics. Our teaching is
informed by our world-leading research in areas such as
lasers, optoelectronics, nanoscience, physics at the
extreme and theoretical physics. We combine traditional and
innovative teaching methods and all students undertake a final
year research project. In the 2011 National Student Survey, we
received a score of 100% for overall student satisfaction.
We offer the following three year BSc degree programmes
and four year MPhys programmes. The BSc Physics with a foundation
year is a four year course.
How to appy

Rachel Dance, BSc
I applied to Hull as my first choice particularly because of the
excellent standards of teaching in Physics, and numerous research
groups whose work I was interested in. For me, one of the best
qualities of our department is that, although not as large as some,
it has a uniquely positive and friendly atmosphere.
My course has been challenging, no doubt about it, but I have
thoroughly enjoyed being here. Physics as a fundamental subject at
degree level opens up so many doors for careers in almost anything
- or even for a PhD!
