Psychology
Most of our students are registered for this three-year degree.
Although all students are registered for a BSc, approximately half
our students have arts and half science backgrounds.
This programme covers all the major areas of modern psychology,
but is flexible enough to allow specialisation in particular
aspects of psychology during the final year of study.
Clinical Psychology and the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology
(ClinPsyD)
Our integrated BSc Psychology / ClinPsyD professional training
programme is unique in the country. Students are selected from the
Undergraduate Departments at Hull and York Universities. To be
eligible for selection to the integrated BSc/ClinPsyD, Hull
applicants must have successfully completed specialist clinical
psychology modules in their third year of the BSc Psychology
course. Selection for these modules takes place towards the end of
semester two in the second year of the undergraduate course.
Selection for the postgraduate course takes place in the second
semester of the third year of the undergraduate course. The
National Health Service financially supports trainees on the
ClinPsyD, for which there are currently a minimum of 7 funded
places per year. More information can be found on the Department
of Clinical Psychology and Psychological Therapies website.
Honours degrees in psychology with other subjects
Psychology can also be combined in double-subject BSc courses
with philosophy, sociology, sport science or criminology. These
programmes last for three years, and students spend approximately
70% of their study time on psychology components and 30% (equating
to five modules in all) on their other subject. The psychology
components cover the core elements of the Single Honours programme,
making graduates eligible for employment in any field of psychology
after appropriate training.

Student Opinion
Richard Nakielny
"My time at Hull has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I
have met a great variety of people, not only through the Psychology
department, but through University life as well. The staff in the
Psychology department have been very supportive during my time here
and, considering I hadn’t studied psychology before, have made the
subject very accessible and fascinating. Overall, I would strongly
recommend coming to Hull to study Psychology; you will be given the
opportunity to gain knowledge in many areas, in an encouraging and
inspiring environment."
