Postgraduate Students

Whether you have just come to the University of Hull to pursue postgraduate studies, or whether you also undertook an undergraduate course at Hull, you are most welcome.

Don't leave it too late to start thinking about the next step in your career and to start making it happen. Make contact with the careers Service at an early stage to start to explore your options on completing your current course or research. In the first instance, don't confine your exploration to academia, but consider all possible options.

Attend careers presentations, workshops and fairs (see Events) to assist you in making career decisions and in being successful in your applications.

If you are applying for opportunities, which are open to candidates without postgraduate qualifications, such as initial teacher training in schools or graduate-entry job opportunities, you may need to be thinking about making an application in the autumn to start the following autumn  - for example, applications for a PGCE to teach in schools open in early/mid September, for courses starting a year later. Find out what is required.

When filling in application forms and attending interviews, be clear about the skills you have developed from your postgraduate studies, particularly interpersonal skills. More will be expected of you than of an undergraduate applicant.

There are different resources available depending on whether you are pursuing a Masters qualification or a PhD.  Click on the link below which most relates to you:
