Working with you to support Students
We are
working on improvements to our website today, and ask for your
patience, as some information and pages may not be available
for short periods.

Latest News
- The latest edition of our bi-monthly newsletter for staff is
now available on the website. Click here to view.
- DLHE figures available online
The DLHE figures for 2009-2010 leavers are available online
under 'What do our graduates do?' The first set of data shows
overall figures for each of the two campuses, including percentage
of employed leavers in graduate-level jobs, and is then broken
down by subject area, with graphs showing employment, further
study, still seeking and other. The second set shows the
overall key findings for University of Hull.

Please encourage your students to register via our website for a
Careers account. This will enable them to view job and placement
vacancies, book a guidance appointment with a Careers Adviser, see
what events are planned, and book a place at an event.
- Careers Adviser 'Drop-ins'
Please refer students to our daily drop-in service for
advice, information and guidance. Drop-ins provide the opportunity
to speak to a Careers Adviser for up to 15 minutes, without
making a prior appointment. This can be about anything
careers-related, such as how to make a start in planning for
the future, or what they can do relating to their degree subject.
They can also obtain feedback on an application or CV, or ask for
advice to prepare for an interview or ability test. Details of
drop-in times are on provided on the web page Getting advice and
support.
We aim to maintain a daily service on weekdays throughout the
year and summer vacation, but if there is a cancellation, we will
try to keep users informed on the above page.
- Longer Appointments to see a Careers
Adviser
We also offer longer, 30 minute appointments with a Careers
Adviser. These have to be booked in advance, but the additional
time allows deeper exploration of issues.
- Practice psychometric tests
Please make students aware that they can practice aptitude or
ability tests free of charge online via the Careers Service and
receive tailored, individual feedback. To register, students and
alumni should contact us.
Working together
Whilst we have an extensive programme of talks, presentations,
workshops and other events available to all students, together with
a Career Management Skills free elective and a
PGTS Career Management Skills module for research students, we
are particularly keen to work with academic Departments to assist
in meeting the specific needs of your students. Your support
is essential in helping the Careers Service deliver the best
possible service to students.
Find out who is
the Careers Adviser for your department.
Each department will have a named Careers Adviser, and in turn
the Careers Service has a named careers liaison contact for each
department, who will discuss careers support, advice and
interventions within the department at the start of each academic
session.
How we can help you
We are happy to share information with you about the latest
developments in the labour market, opportunities, events and
contacts.
We aim to keep you informed by e-mail, newsletter and printed
promotional materials of the services we offer.
We produce a regular newsletter for our careers liaison contacts
and other interested staff. If you wish to be added to the
distribution list, please let us know.
We aim to meet with our careers liaison contacts at least once a
year to discuss plans for the coming year.
We are also willing to develop tailored training programmes for
students and staff, and to advise as to how employability might be
embedded in academic programmes.
We are also happy to provide resources, advice and
information to support PDP.
How you can help us
You can help us by nominating a member of staff to act as the
Careers Liaison contact - if you have not already done
so.
To provide the best possible service, we suggest that you take
up opportunities to keep up to date with labour market
information and the activities and resources offered by the
Careers Service to support students and staff, such as attending
the Careers and Employability Conference.
It helps us to keep students informed if you are willing
to add information to eBridge sites, and provide
notice board space to advertise the events and services we
offer, and to promote the Careers Service website and events.
We welcome any support you can give us in encouraging students
and graduates to inform the Careers Service of their first
destination as part of the annual Destination of Leavers from
Higher Education (DLHE) survey.
We would appreciate you letting us know of any changes to
academic programmes, of any careers stories, or contacts who would
be willing to deliver presentations or practice interviews.
