Internships and Placements

  • Work experience can significantly enhance your prospects of getting a graduate job at the end of your current studies. It also provides an opportunity for you to gain skills and test out occupations of interest without commiting yourself to a long-term job.
  • Many employers offer work placements so that they can test out candidates, and a high number of placements result in longer term job offers, so be prepared for thorough recruitment and selection processes.
  • Employers advertise well in advance, so plan ahead and be ready to apply several months before the placement start date.
  • Don't forget that placement opportunities are also advertised  via the jobs page.

Looking for a summer placement or needing a one-year placement opportunity?

Light bulb icon What is the difference between a work placement and an internship?

We tend to use both terms for the same thing. Both refer to a period of work experience with an employer. Some are paid and some are unpaid. Most of those featured on this page are paid opportunities.
