Unseen Disabilities / Medical
conditions
We recognise that the term disability includes medical
conditions and a wide range of ‘unseen’ conditions such as asthma,
epilepsy, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis and back
conditions.
If you have an ongoing medical condition which is impacting on
your studies but are not sure whether you would qualify for support
through Disability Services, we would strongly encourage you to get
in touch for advice. You may be entitled to support through
the DSA or
alternative
examination arrangements. We can also provide support to
students with recently diagnosed medical conditions, however
students with short-term medical problems such as a broken leg
should ask their academic department for advice in the first
instance.
It is important that all students register with a local
GP so that appropriate medical support can be provided.
Our role is to assist with any academic-related support that you
may require e.g. alternative arrangements in examinations rather
than to provide medical advice.
