Open Day Programme

Getting here

Detailed directions to the campus can be found here. If you are travelling by train look out for our Student Ambassadors at Paragon Interchange (dressed in red t-shirts) who can direct you to the complimentary shuttle bus service to the Hull Campus. The shuttle bus will run between 8.30am and 1.00pm. A return service to Paragon Interchange will be available in the afternoon between 2.30pm and 4:45pm.

Arrival Point

When you arrive at the campus please make your way to the arrival point in the Plaza, next to the Brynmor Jones Library. The arrival point is open between 9am and 3pm.

Departmental exhibitions and talks

Academic staff from different subject areas will be available between 9am and 3.30pm in the Brynmor Jones Library, where they will be offering advice and guidance on the different programmes and courses available.

Academic staff from individual departments will also be giving subject specific talks throughout the day.

Information Stands

Our resident experts will be available in the Brynmor Jones Library between 9am and 3.30pm. Whether your question is concerning UCAS tariff points, scholarships, study abroad, sports and fitness or even how frequently the buses run, we have someone to answer your queries.

Accommodation tours

You will also have the opportunity to take a look at some of the accommodation on offer at the University.

  • The Lawns Halls of Residence - A complimentary shuttle service will be provided to The Lawns, where you will receive a guided tour, view the accommodation and chat to staff and students. The buses start at 9am and run every 15 minutes. The last shuttle bus leaves campus at 2.45pm. The buses leave from outside the Venn Building. Look for the flags.
  • Thwaite Hall - Take the free shuttle service to enjoy a guided tour of our fully-catered Traditional Hall of Residence. Tours depart every 30 minutes between 10am and 2.30pm from outside the Venn Building. Please note that parking is not available at Thwaite Hall.
  • Student Housing - Drop by number 52 Cranbrook Avenue which will be open to view between 9am and 4pm. Accommodation Office staff will also be on hand in this property to answer any questions.
  • Taylor Court - Visit our on-campus accommodation at Taylor Court between 9am and 4pm. Accommodation Office staff will also be available to answer any questions.

Visitors are very welcome to make their own way to The Lawns and join a guided tour. The postcode for Sat Nav is HU16 5SN. Please note: student rooms are open for viewing until 3.30pm.

Campus tours

Take a guided tour of the campus and the main University buildings with one of our current students. Tours run every 15 minutes between 9am and 3pm. The tours take approximately 40 minutes and leave from outside the Brynmor Jones Library in the Plaza. Look for the flags.

Students' Union Tours

View the excellent facilities within the Students' Union, University House, including information on Careers, Employability, Learning and Welfare Support, Disabilities and Mature Student Advice. Just call in to the Union Reception between 9am and 3.30pm.

Library Tours

Call in to the Library reception between 9am and 4pm for a self-guided tour to view the £27.4 million redevelopment which includes all new study areas, reading room and café.

Tour of the City of Hull

Find out what the City of Hull has to offer by taking a tour around the city with our resident expert and a current student. The tours run at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm and take approximately 60 minutes. Please note that seats are limited. The last tour at 3pm includes a drop off at Hull Paragon Interchange (at approx: 3.45pm).

Meals and refreshments will be available throughout the day.


A spare 10 minutes between talks and tours....

  • Enjoy panoramic views of the city from the top floor of our library or simply browse the collection of over a million items to help with your study. Open 9am-4pm.
  • Take time out in the peace and quiet of the South East Asia Museum which exhibits the weapons of Bornea tribesmen, ornate bridal head-dresses and shadow puppets from Indonesia. 1st Floor West, Wilberforce Building. Open 9am-3pm.
  • The Advice Centre offers a free service and is run by the Students' Union. It provides impartial, confidential advice and information to the students of the University of Hull and is usually the first port of call if you have a problem. Open 10am-3pm.
  • The Sports and Fitness Centre facilities include a fully equipped fitness suite incorporating the latest in cardio vascular and resistance equipment and professionally trained staff. You are welcome to tour the facilities, just ask at the Centre's Reception desk for further information. Open 9am-7pm.
  • Whether it's the latest bestseller or a core text book for your course, the Waterstones University of Hull team is dedicated to the world of books. Waterstones bookshop is next to the Students' Union. Open 10am-3.30pm.
  • Have a look around our brand-new state-of-the-art music studio and rehearsal spaces in Middleton Hall. Our recording studios are used for producing recordings of all styles of music, including classical, jazz, pop and film sound tracks. Open 12.30pm-2pm.
